About Binnenland
After some collaboration on various typeface projects, Michael Mischler and Nik Thoenen founded Binnenland in 2007 as a common label for their individual type design activities and to publish their font developments. Their special interest lies in the sensitive effect and dimension of typefaces — between graphic design and legibility — with all their (phenomenological) components. The form of a typeface always follows an attitude, the form of a typeface always follows an understanding: creative subtlety and clear comprehensibility. Alongside custom and personalised font designs resulting from a close collaboration with a variety of commissioners, the focus in their individual design work is mainly on editorial design, where typography is also a central concern, Michael Mischler in the bernese office, Nik Thoenen in Vienna.
